The field of Political Sociology and Comparative Politics
focuses on the analysis of political parties and collective action, political science and public law, political behavior, public policies, political economy and economic policy, international relations, political communication and the research methodology of political science.
The Centre for Political Research and the Laboratory on Conflict Policy operate within the Department, collaborating with established and younger scholars and international research networks. They carry out research projects, organize conferences and offer systematic methodology seminars.
The field of Modern and Contemporary History
focuses on Modern and Contemporary European, Greek, Balkan, Ottoman history, the history of migration and diaspora communities, minorities, public history and historiography.
The Centre for Research in Modern History (KENI) operates within the Department, with five research units. Its goals include the undertaking of historical research projects in collaboration with other researchers and academic institutions in Greece and abroad, the organizing of relevant conferences and lectures and the assembling of archive collections.
The field of Social and Political Theory
focuses on Political Philosophy, Political Philosophy of the Democratic State, versions and critiques of the category of Progress, Models of Democracy and Theories of Justice.
